CHC wins PCT funding

26th November 2007

In August this year the CHC became one of the only complementary therapy centres in the UK to win a Practice Based Commissioning contract from the NHS. Practice Based Commissioning is a government scheme, which means local GP practices provide treatments on behalf of the NHS. Under Practice Based Commissioning, clinics are given a budget, which they use to fund their services. The CHC has been awarded an 18-month contract with the NHS to deliver Physiotherapy, Osteopathy and McTimoney Chiropractic Care through GP referrals.

Since September 2006, GPs from across East Bristol have been accessing a pilot of the service and 692 patients have been treated locally. The project is now able to continue for a further 18 months thanks to the Practice Based Commissioning contract. This is great news for local people who will now be able to get treatment locally rather than having to go to a city hospital and it also helps reduce NHS waiting lists.

So congratulations to the team at the CHC – everyone has worked really hard to get statutory funding for the project and move one step closer to the resident’s dream of a local centre which offers a full range of health and wellbeing services.
